Memorial Day: Today, We Honor Those Who Served

Memorial Day is a day to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for the United States of America. It is a day of reflection and remembrance, when we take time to remember those who have gone before us, and those who are still with us.

This holiday has been celebrated in the United States since 1868, when it was first declared a national holiday. On this day we pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans and their families, and to remember that freedom is not free. We honor those who served with dignity and valor, giving their all so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms we have today.

It is worth repeating what our founding fathers said about freedom: “Those who mean to be free, must themselves be free from the tyranny of others.”
