Observing Black History Month

Did you know that President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month as a federal observance at the nation’s bicentennial in 1976? He encouraged others, “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
