Sgt. Henry Johnson was a “Harlem Hellfighter”of the 369th U.S. Infantry Regiment, of World War I . During a fight in the Argonne Forest in May of 1918, Johnson and a buddy Johnson came under heavy enemy fire after responding to an attack by 12 German soldiers. . He fired his rifle until he was out of ammunition, and then charged the Germans with a bayonet. Johnson killed three of the soldiers before being shot in the knee but survived., saving the rest of his unit.

Sgt. Johnson will receive the Medal of Honor (posthumously) on Tuesday. Ninety-seven years after they were denied the award due to discrimination, the soldier will finally be recognized in a ceremony at The White House.
